COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY TAILORED TO YOU

My approach

However much you may be struggling right now, things can get better.

Psychotherapy can effectively treat a wide range of issues.

I’ve trained in a variety of psychotherapy treatments, and the difference in what I do is that unlike some therapists who have one single approach, I choose the therapy which is most likely to work best for you, and the situation you’re in.

Simon

I have a Masters degree from Oxford University, and studied Counselling & Psychotherapy at the Australian College of Applied Psychology in Sydney, graduating with Distinction.

I have a warm and empathetic style, and take great care to understand who you are and use a style of therapy that will work for you.

I have had somewhat of a focus on assisting successful individuals deal with whatever is troubling them, including lawyers, businesspeople, those working in finance, the media, accountancy and consulting, and other Sydney professionals and their partners.

I’m confident that if I work with you as your psychotherapist I can help you get to a place where you’re living a more satisfying and rewarding life.

Approaches I use

Psychotherapy approach

Person-Centred Therapy. This is perhaps the simplest, most widespread type of psychotherapy in use today. Pioneered by Dr Carl Rogers, person-centred therapists use empathetic, non-judgmental listening to help clients come to a deeper understanding of their issues.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. CBT is the therapy most widely used by psychologists, and has a wealth of evidence supporting its effectiveness. It involves helping clients to understand their own thought processes, in order to bring about changes in how they feel and behave.

Narrative Therapy. An exciting, relatively new therapy that originated in Australia and New Zealand, narrative therapy conceptualises life as a story we tell ourselves, and the treatment involves therapists helping clients to reframe their own story in a more positive way. I’ve found narrative therapy extremely helpful for clients grappling with all kinds of life changes.

Solution-Focused Therapy. A generally brief psychotherapy treatment (2-6 sessions) which, rather than delving into the origin of problems, SFT therapists focus on what the client can do going forward to improve their situation.

Gestalt Therapy. In this treatment, the psychotherapist focuses on what is going on in the client’s body, in order to uncover what is happening with their mind and emotions. Can involve exercises and role plays to release blockages.

Psychodynamic Therapy. A treatment which helps a client understand themselves in terms of their personal history and childhood. Once upon a time, every psychotherapist was a psychodynamic psychotherapist. Nowadays, the therapy landscape is more heavily populated by cognitive behavioural therapists. Althought CBT is highly effective, especially for symptom reduction, I love working as a psychodynamic psychotherapist as I feel it can get to deeper answers.

“I was feeling totally stuck in my life, both in work and with my relationships. Simon helped me sort out what was really going on, and I am in a much, much better place now.”
